A man who murdered his brother-in-law in Naranjal canton is sentenced to 26 years

Carlos TR was accused of murdering Héctor AR, 19 years old.

Carlos Andrés TR was sentenced to 26 years in prison for the murder of his brother-in-law, which occurred on February 11, 2021 in Naranjal.

Prosecutor Blanca Noblecilla, at the trial hearing, requested the appearance of ten witnesses, including Criminalistics personnel, expert doctors and eyewitnesses to the crime. The latter identified as the perpetrator of the act of blood the now sentenced.

Carlos TR was accused of murdering Héctor AR, 19 years old. According to eyewitnesses, the now sentenced man was the material author of the act. The victim died from three gunshot wounds to the head.

With the testimonial, expert and documentary evidence presented by the Prosecutor’s Office, a Court of Criminal Guarantees sentenced him to 26 years in prison for this crime.

The court also imposed the payment of a fine of 1,000 basic wages of the worker (425,000 dollars) and 20,000 dollars as integral reparation to the relatives of the young victim.

According to the investigation that emerged from the Prosecutor’s Office, the crime occurred due to differences and quarrels between the two, presumably due to the distribution of various sectors for the sale of drugs.

Once the crime was committed on the night of February 2021, the sentenced man fled the scene and remained a fugitive from justice until a month later.

He was apprehended by the Police in Quevedo, Los Ríos, where an arrest warrant issued by a competent judge was made effective, upon request of the Prosecutor’s Office.

The state entity processed this case based on article 140 of the Comprehensive Organic Criminal Code (COIP) as the direct perpetrator. The legal body punishes the crime of murder with a custodial sentence of 22 to 26 years, that is, the maximum sentence was given to the accused. (I)
