World number one Novak Djokovic has been returned to a special hotel for migrants in Melbourne, journalist Lana Murphy reports.

The Serb was brought to the Carlton Hotel under escort. The athlete will spend at least one night there. Tomorrow, January 16, there will be a court hearing on Djokovic’s case. In addition to Novak, 33 other migrants live in the hotel.

January 5 Djokovic arrived in Melbourne to participate in the Australian Open, which starts on January 17. The Australian Border Guard detained the tennis player at the airport and, after interrogation, on the night of January 6, canceled the Serb’s visa. Djokovic tried to enter Australia unvaccinated with a medical exemption from coronavirus vaccination. The border service considered the data provided insufficient. The tennis player was supposed to be deported back then, but the court on January 10 overturned this decision.

Yesterday, the Australian Immigration Minister announced that Djokovic’s visa had been canceled for the second time. The Serb must be deported from the country, in which case he will not be able to take part in the Australian Open-2022.
