Risk Management Service recommends suspending maritime activities in coastal areas of Ecuador as a precaution after volcanic eruption on Tonga Island

The National Service for Risk and Emergency Management recommended the suspension of maritime activities in the continental and insular coastal zone of Ecuador after the volcanic eruption on the island of Tonga, registered this Saturday 15.

As a precaution due to a possible impact on the local tide and the presence of strong currents, the entity suggested the suspension of maritime and recreation activities on the coastal edge of the insular region until 3:00 p.m. this Saturday the 15th, and in the continental zone until 17:00.

Cristian Torres, general director of the National Risk Management Service, reported that the respective chain of calls and communication to local authorities was made.

The entity indicated that the event is under constant monitoring by the Oceanographic and Antarctic Institute of the Navy (Inocar).
