The Tverskoy Court of Moscow sent under arrest the last – the eighth – member of the hacker group REvil, “famous” after accusations of a large-scale cyber attack on American companies. The press secretary of the court, Ksenia Rozina, announced the arrest of the eighth member of the RIA Novosti group.
Recall that seven hackers were previously sent into custody: Andrei Bessonov, Roman Muromsky, Mikhail Golovochuk, Ruslan Khansvyarov, Dmitry Korotaev, Alexei Malozemov, Artem Zayets, the last court sent Alexei Puzyrevsky to the pre-trial detention center. The terms of arrest are set for two months – until March 13 or 14, depending on the time of detention of the defendants. All of them are charged with Part 2 of Article 187 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (Illegal circulation of means of payment), while they are in the status of suspects.
Earlier, the FSB reported on searches of 14 members of the criminal community, but so far the court has received only 8 requests for arrests.
As previously reported by the FSB, the investigation established the full composition of the REvil criminal community and proved the involvement of its members in the illegal circulation of means of payment. The intelligence service said that the hackers developed malicious software, organized the theft of money from the bank accounts of foreigners and cashed them out, including by purchasing expensive goods on the Internet.
It is emphasized that the basis for the search was the appeal of the competent US authorities, “reporting about the leader of the criminal community and his involvement in encroachments on the information resources of foreign high-tech companies by introducing malicious software, encrypting information and extorting money for its decryption.”
According to the report, during searches at 25 addresses, more than 426 million rubles were seized from 14 members of the criminal community, “including in cryptocurrency”, 600 thousand dollars, 500 thousand euros, as well as computer equipment, crypto wallets and 20 premium cars.
