Work is being carried out to remove the material that affects the road. Those tasks would finish in fifteen days.
The Ministry of Transportation and Public Works (MTOP) announced that the Baños-Puyo road will be closed again to vehicular traffic between 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday until 5:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 20. These closures have been repeated in recent days due to the constant landslides in some sections of the highway that connects Tungurahua and Pastaza.
Through the statement, the State Portfolio warned that the decision was made due to the weather conditions on the road due to the constant and heavy rains, in order to protect citizen security.
Likewise, the entity clarified that MTOP personnel and machinery perform permanent tasks to maintain the connectivity of at least 8,000 users who use this artery daily, which is part of the Amazon trunk.
The district director of the MTOP in Tungurahua, David Garcés, said that at the moment work is being carried out to remove the material that affects the road, tasks that are expected to be completed in approximately fifteen days and thus fully recover circulation in this area. .
He indicated that another of the problems presented by the rains is the landslide in the section that goes from Pelileo to Baños, in the El Pingue sector, where part of the road infrastructure was lost. (I)
