After three Russian landing ships entered the Baltic Sea earlier this week, combat readiness has been increased on the Swedish island of Gotland. Soldiers of the Swedish army with dogs constantly patrol the most vulnerable places of the island’s infrastructure, including the harbor and the airport of Visby, swedinfo.ru reports.
A dozen tanks were even brought into the harbor. They drove at full speed through the streets before stopping briefly at a roundabout before driving back.
The media writes that it was a show of force by the military of the Russian Federation. So in Sweden they showed that they intend to resist Russian aggression.
And although the Swedish military understands that they are unable to stop a possible invasion, they are trying to warn the enemy about the inadmissibility of hostile actions by such measures, the portal notes.
Earlier it was reported that the Swedish Armed Forces called in reserve officers to increase combat readiness on the island of Gotland after three landing ships of the Russian Navy entered the Baltic Sea. At the same time, the head of the operations department of the Swedish Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Leif Mikael Klasson, said that he was “not too alarmist” and that the movement of Russian military resources in the Baltic Sea was “natural” for a coastal state, which is Russia. However, he stressed that “Russia’s offensive capabilities are increasing”, so the Swedish military “should act accordingly”.
