A ninety-eight-year-old veteran woman from the city of Pechora (Komi Republic) received a registered letter from the tax office reminding her to return the tax for a gift given to her to celebrate the 75th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War in 2020. The news about this appeared in the local media and in the VKontakte group “Typical Pechora”.

The veteran’s daughter is outraged by the possibility of such a “gift” from “officials congratulating the veterans” and emphasizes that she hid this outrageous fact from her mother so as not to upset her.

As Komsomolskaya Pravda in Komi explains, citing the explanation of the Office of the Federal Tax Service of the Russian Federation for the Republic of Komi, this, apparently, is a gift purchased by the donor at the expense of extra-budgetary funds. If the cost of such a gift exceeded the amount of the benefit established by the Tax Code of the Russian Federation in the amount of 10 thousand rubles, then the funds donated to the veteran on behalf of the organization are subject to taxation in the general manner.
