Intense rains accompanied by electrical storms were recorded in the center and south of Quito, on the afternoon of Friday, January 14. In the north of the city there were no news.
In the Chimbacalle sector, south of the city, rainfall caused accumulation of water on Napo Avenue.
This was reported by the ECU 911 Integrated Security System, which captured images through video surveillance cameras. Until 5:00 p.m., the entity did not report incidents due to the weather.
On the other hand, to the east of Quito, in the Valle de Los Chillos sector of the Rumiñahui Canton, hail fell. The streets and houses were covered with a white blanket. There was heavy traffic congestion on the General Rumiñahui Highway.
On January 12, the National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology (Inamhi) warned that between Thursday and Saturday the presence of rainfall of varying intensity is expected in various sectors of the country. In the inter-Andean region, the rains would be more relevant, they will focus on the northern and southern provinces, the Institute indicated through the Meteorological bulletin.
