The Municipality of Quito will carry out an inventory of heritage assets in the historic center starting on Monday, January 17

The authorities requested the collaboration of the owners of the properties that are part of the old town. Municipal officials will be identified.

The Municipality of Quito, through the Metropolitan Heritage Institute (IMP), reported that it will start, this Monday, January 17, 2022, a inventory of cultural heritage in the historic center. This, in order to keep updated list and photographic evidence of the goods that are part of the old town.

According to the IMP, this process It will take about three months. According to a previous database, there are approximately 5,000 real estate.

The historic center of Quito was declared Cultural heritage of Humanity Since 1978, the distinction has been awarded by UNESCO. The capital is known for the conservation of these historical assets and the conjunction of various types of architectural art (colonial, baroque, gothic, neo-gothic, among others).

In addition, between the corridors of its buildings hides an infinity of works belonging to the Quito School of Art.

The work to be done involves compilation of technical and photographic information on the current state of the houses. The bulletin of the municipal institute assures that only its officials, duly accredited, will attend to each of the properties that are part of this jurisdiction.

Article 68 of the Organic Law of Culture provides that “All holders of any real right, administrators, holders, holders and in general any natural or legal person, public or private, who is in charge of assets of the national cultural heritage, must facilitate access to assets and information about them, to public servants and researchers duly authorized by the competent entity, to carry out the registration, inventory, investigation and control of cultural heritage…”.

Homeowner Incentive Programs

The authorities reported that they maintain an active benefit program for owners of real estate in the historic center of Quito, which assigns reimbursable resources through recovery by special contribution of improvements (CEM), and non-refundable for the “investment and rehabilitation of public space on heritage assets and historical areas or areas of heritage interest”.

These incentives would be divided into the following projects:

  • Rehabilitation of housing (Pon a Punto Tu Casa).
  • Intervention on roofs (Fifth Facade. Up to 50% of the approved intervention budget with a limit of $15,000 per property.).
  • Recovery of facades (Recovery of Urban Image. Up to 50% of the approved intervention budget).
  • Minor maintenance.

Finally, they asked the citizens offer their support to these technical teams, in order to carry out the necessary inspection for the process of updating the real estate.
