The Swedish Armed Forces began patrolling the streets of Visby, the main city of the island of Gotland. The reason is the increased risks in relations between Russia and NATO, Novosti Sweden reports.
The Swedish Armed Forces characterize their actions as a “contingency adjustment”.
“From today we will have constant patrols on the streets of Visby and in other places… The airport and seaports are of great importance for Gotland. The island of Gotland in the Baltic Sea, according to the Swedish authorities, is a tasty morsel for the Russian military. Since 1679, Gotland has always belonged to Sweden, except for a few weeks during the Russo-Swedish War of 1808–1809, when it was occupied by Russian troops and declared a Russian province.
