The SNAI has not confirmed whether there were deaths or injuries in the opposing pavilions.
Hours after the shots that were reported this Wednesday afternoon between pavilions 2 and 3 of the Litoral Penitentiary, a control operation was carried out inside the cells in coordination with the Police.
This was reported on its Twitter account by the National Service for Persons Deprived of Liberty and Adolescent Offenders (SNAI). As a result, 26 cell phones, jewelry and electronic devices were seized.
However, until 10:00 this Thursday, the prison control entity has not reported any injuries in the new clashes reported by relatives and human rights activists. Residents of the area indicated that they also heard sounds as if they were shots.
The clashes inside the Litoral Penitentiary would have begun after 2:00 p.m.
There were even audios that circulated of alleged family members asking for help to find out the status of their internal relatives.
Before the report of these new confrontations, the Government of Guayas published on social networks that “intense control and security operations” were being carried out by the personnel of the Armed Forces, outside the prison complex in Guayaquil.
In the early morning of December 30, 2021, detonations were also recorded in the Litoral Penitentiary, in pavilions 2 and 3 around 02:00. On that occasion, no deaths or injuries were reported as in other riots and clashes that have occurred in the Litoral Penitentiary in the last three years. 2021 was the most violent, due to the number of victims, which exceeded 180.
