Since January 12, the Rosselkhoznadzor has banned the import of animals and livestock products from Kazakhstan. As stated in the message on the agency’s website, the reason for the ban was “suspicion of worsening epizootic situation for foot and mouth disease.”
The department notes that the ban applies to animals susceptible to foot and mouth disease, raw meat and milk. In addition, it will be prohibited to import wool, bristles, skins and leather that have not been processed using virus-destructive technology.
As a reminder, on January 11, Kazakh President Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev announced the start of the withdrawal of the CSTO peacekeeping forces two days later, adding that their mission was ending. At the same time, the commander of the Russian Airborne Forces and the contingent of peacekeepers in Kazakhstan, Colonel-General Andrei Serdyukov, said that the withdrawal of the CSTO peacekeepers will take place after the tasks are completed, in cooperation with the republic’s authorities.
Russia is the main trade partner of Kazakhstan in terms of the size of bilateral trade. In 2020, exports and imports of the two countries totaled $ 18.2 billion, which is more than 21% of the total trade turnover of Kazakhstan with the whole world.
