RFI: Nurpeisov, a lawyer from Kazakhstan, insists on the need to separate the rioters from civilians

The number of citizens of Kazakhstan detained due to participation in the riots is so large that there may not be enough temporary detention facilities for them. Lawyer Galym Nurpeisov told French Radio International (RFI), adding that the task of the community of lawyers and human rights defenders in Kazakhstan is “to separate people who went with peaceful economic demands from those who committed illegal actions in the form of arson, murder and so on.” At the same time, he notes that lawyers do not have access to pre-trial detention centers, but there is an opportunity to find out what is happening there, from people who happened to be in detention centers in recent days and were released.

“The National Security Committee and police departments work in a special ‘closed’ regime, admission to these buildings is strictly limited, – says Galym Nurpeisov. – Those people who were detained and then released after interrogations claim that there were signs of the use of force against some citizens. This should be investigated and given a legal assessment. “

By the use of force, Nurpeisov means, in particular, the story of the arrest of a musician from Kyrgyzstan Vikram Ruzakhunov, suspected of involvement in terrorism, who admitted that he incriminated himself so that he would be released.

Galym Nurpeisov admits that there was an attempted coup d’etat in Kazakhstan and agrees that the authorities and law enforcement officials have the prerequisites to act on emotions, but believes that the main task of the current moment is to ensure the observance of basic human rights and separate the criminals from the civilians involved in the provocation.
