In the first days of 2021, there was an average of one violent death per day. Until January 11, 2022 there are 33 cases in Guayaquil Durán and Samborondón.
90% of the violent deaths registered so far this year in zone 8 (Guayaquil, Durán and Samborondón) respond to the fight for territory for the sale of drugs. This is how the National Police classifies them, although not all the deceased have a criminal record.
After analyzing the numbers of violent deaths in zone 8, it is evident that the cases have tripled compared to last year. In 2021 the first days of January there was an average daily violent death. Until January 11, 2022, there are already 33 cases in Guayaquil, Durán and Samborondón.
Of the 33 reported cases, 30 deaths have been by firearm and three by knife. The victims have been shot by men on motorcycles or aboard vehicles and in several cases collateral deaths have been recorded such as that of the 11-year-old boy who died on Thursday in the suburb, that of the woman who was shot this Saturday when she was in a car talking with his partner, in the northwest of Guayaquil. And also the father of the family who was killed by mistake when a hitman followed a man who entered the victim’s house.
The agents that make up the Police Violent Deaths Unit, on average, attend three uprisings every day, not counting those who survive the armed attacks, also about three cases a day.
The most recent hit man-style attack took place this Tuesday in the south of the city, the most conflictive area of the city. There, at 10:00, a motorcyclist was shot and wounded in the Guasmo. It happened in the Guayas y Quil 2 cooperative and it was known that four men on two motorcycles followed the victim and shot him six times. He was shot in the chest and another in the leg. The wounded man, who has six arrests for robbery and other crimes, is recovering in a hospital.
Bryan Asunción Cagua was 23 years old and did not have the same luck. On Monday he died at his home when he was shot by armed men posing as policemen and faking an operation.
It happened in the San Eduardo hill sector and, according to Criminalistics, 26 ballistic signs were raised at the scene.
Colonel Francisco Zumárraga, subcommander of Zone 8, mentioned that two burgundy cars arrived at the place and that the neighbors saw several armed men enter the house and minutes later the shots were heard.
Relatives of the victim said that the killers wore reflective sweaters similar to those worn by police officers.
In fact, the wife of the deceased today was stopped at the door of the building when she came home from shopping and they took her cell phone and money that she carried in her pocket.
Then they entered the department with Asunción Cagua, supposedly to question him.
The deceased’s sister explained that she jumped from the balcony, about four meters high, when she heard the burst of shots in the living room of the apartment, located on the second floor.
Colonel Zumárraga mentioned that the victim had two antecedents: one for flagrant robbery and the other for illicit association. It is presumed that he was involved in the sale of drugs.
On Monday, in the south of the city, Christofer Pezo was shot while in a motorcycle workshop. It happened in Los Esteros, in the south of Guayaquil, near where on Saturday another man was assassinated in a barber shop for a territorial fight.
But it was not the only case registered on Monday in the south of the city. In the Santa Mónica citadel, another man was executed by hitmen around 11:00 p.m.
It is about Stalin Briones, who was shot in the enclosure of his house. (I)
