As a result of the disaster, the La Estancia sector was the most affected. The flow of the Las Estancias river increased considerably and dragged logs and vegetation. In its wake it caused the death of five people.

“The emergency declaration was only words, because four months have passed and we continue in the same situations, after the flood what was done was to fix the road a bit, the river was channeled in some parts,” said Bolívar Galarza, who has in the place a tourist stop.

He said that after some claims made by those affected, on Friday of the previous week the prefect of Tungurahua and other authorities arrived at the place, after which machinery arrived on Saturday to work on the stabilization of the highway because it was in danger of collapsing. in some parts.

“In a few hours, what was not achieved in four months was done,” he argued.

He stated that the strongest claim in the authorities’ visit was the need to restore the bridge that was swept away by the flood. He said that with the support of the people a wooden one was built, but that it is dangerous to cross that way, that even in previous days a motorcyclist was on the verge of having an accident.

Galarza commented that there was a commitment to execute a provisional bridge with scrap pipes that Petroecuador delivered and that they are in place, that even this Tuesday they took some to the Municipality of Baños de Agua Santa to weld them and that in the next few days the assembly.

Five people die from alluvium in Baños de Agua Santa

He insisted on the need for support from the authorities in order for tourism services to resume. He recalled that tourists did not arrive on December holidays because the bridge that left with the natural event has not yet been restored and that currently the locals made a wooden one.

Carlos Villacís, president of Las Estancias, said that each fish farmer lost more than a million fish due to the alluvium and stressed the importance of having a road and bridge in good condition because the area lives off tourism.

Studies

The prefect of Tungurahua recognized that what is needed is to restore the bridge that took the flood, that in these months what was done were the studies and that financing is being sought because it has an approximate value of $ 500,000, for which the provincial government will contribute, as well as the support of the Municipality of Baños and the parish council of Río Negro has been requested.

He said that after the fact the first thing that was done was to rescue the bodies of the five deceased people, but that the work did not stop there, because due to the magnitude of the flood and the consequences, work was done to enable the entry route, as well as to execute the channeling of the river, so the situation is normal.

“It is not like that, it has not been possible to attend,” added Caizabanda. (I)
