On the afternoon of Tuesday the 11th, incidents were reported inside the CPL No. 1 Esmeraldas Men’s Rehabilitation Center.
Residents of the 15 de Marzo neighborhood, where the prison is located, reported the incidents to authorities.
According to preliminary information, a confrontation between inmates occurred after 4:00 p.m. Two inmates were killed in the brawl.
Personnel of Legal Medicine, Criminalistics, with reinforcements from other police units, entered the prison.
Elements of the Armed Forces reinforced the external perimeter and the Refinery road was closed. Likewise, employees of the National Service for Comprehensive Attention to Persons Deprived of Liberty and Adolescent Offenders (SNAI) left their work areas to the outside.
Joffre García, deputy police commander of Subzone 8 Esmeraldas, also said that this week three women were detained after finding three mobile terminals that, apparently, were trying to enter the prison in Santas Vainas.
