School and institutional transporters ask that they be allowed to require the vaccination card against COVID-19 to their users

The union urges the municipalities to adopt the same measure of the national COE with public transport and that it be applied from January 12.

Just as the national Emergency Operations Committee (COE) ordered that public transport users present the vaccination card or certificate against COVID-19, the National Federation of School and Institutional Transport (Fenatei) urges the 221 municipalities of the country -which have powers over school transport- to adopt the same measure for this sector.

Oswaldo Guamán, president of Fenatei, comments that, while waiting for the municipalities to resolve the issue, the institutions and companies, public and private, to which they provide the service, are asked to allow carriers to demand the document of Vaccination of people who board the units, starting January 12.

National COE has control of the vaccination document against COVID-19 in inter and intraprovincial transport

“The National Transit Agency (ANT) has just issued a resolution for interprovincial, intraprovincial and tourism transport. We cannot sit idly by. Fenatei seeks this measure as a guarantee of safety for users and also for the lives of our fellow transporters ”, says the leader.

According to Fenatei records, there are 15,223 school transporters in the country, of which more than 35% have been infected with the virus during the two years of the pandemic. The union reports that 96 drivers have died from COVID-19. “We do not want to continue losing the lives of colleagues,” says Guamán and reports that all drivers are vaccinated with the full scheme.

School transport has been one of the sectors most affected by the economic crisis, due to the suspension of face-to-face classes in educational establishments. Guamán indicates that, currently, only 5,600 units are working and most of them work for companies and institutions. (I)
