Councilors of Quito rejected an expression of the mayor Luis Reina against Luz Elena Coloma

While it was being developed, telematically, the Quito Metropolitan Council session of this Tuesday, January 11, 2022, there was an incident between the councilors Luis Reina (RC) and Luz Elena Coloma (CREO).

During the intervention of Councilor Coloma, the Luis Reina’s microphone stayed on, even though he had finished his speech, so the entire session could hear a conversation that the mayor had belonging to the correista bench with another person.

It was to hit the Coloma hard, hey”, is heard while Councilor Luz Elena Coloma spoke. Given this, the mayor questioned: “Councilor Luis Reina, it is open (the microphone). He wants to hit me hard, he says. Can you explain what you mean?”.

Before the silence of all, the mayor Santiago Guarderas gave the floor again to the councilor, who pointed out that the statements were recorded as evidence.

For its part, Luis Reina (RC) expressed his apologies in the same session, after the claim of several councilors who criticized the mayor’s assertions and condemned any type of political violence. “I extend my apologies to Councilor Coloma and to the entire Council (…). The metaphor was: ideas have to be debated and, if there are different points of view, you have to express them, you have to say them frontally ”, he added.

The councilor Soledad Benitez also said that on behalf of the Citizen Revolution they present an apology for what happened. In addition, he took the opportunity to request that minimum agreements be generated between the different banks to get to approve resolutions and ordinances for the good of the city.

Mayor Santiago Guarderas He said in this regard: “The only way to give prestige to a collegiate body is when its members act in an ethical, responsible and democratic manner. I hope that is our behavior. The city of Quito demands that the debate in this Council be raised and that we find solutions to the serious problems. Let’s avoid these situations that unfortunately tarnish our performance”.
