The Age: Tennis player Djokovic faces a real sentence for false information when entering Australia

Australian authorities have launched a new investigation into the world ranking leader Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic, reports The Age.

Djokovic, who had previously had problems with his Australian visa, was convicted of providing false information when entering the country on January 6. Filling in the corresponding declaration, the tennis player indicated that he had not visited other countries 14 days before his visit to Australia. However, it later turned out that the athlete flew from Serbia to Spain during the reporting period, Interfax reports.

According to local laws, Djokovic can be prosecuted for providing false or misleading information with a maximum sentence of 12 months in prison.

As “Lenta.ru” reminds, on January 5, the tennis player was denied entry to Australia, since his visa did not imply entering into it data on the medical withdrawal from vaccination against COVID-19. The athlete planned to take part in the Australian Open, which will take place from January 17 to 30.

Meanwhile, on January 10, Djokovic won an appeal for deportation from Australia. The court agreed that the Serb had provided all the documents to enter the country.

Meanwhile, a petition was created in Serbia “For the expulsion of a kangaroo from the Belgrade Zoo”. This is how local residents reacted to the “outrageous” actions of the Australian authorities, who detained the famous tennis player.

The Professional Association of Tennis Players (ATP) reacted to the situation, making an appeal on the Djokovic case.
