President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy considers it necessary to “substantively negotiate” on the de-escalation of the conflict in Donbass. He stated this during a meeting with the adviser to the German Chancellor on foreign policy Jens Pletner and the diplomatic adviser to the President of France Emmanuel Bonn.
“The time has come to substantively negotiate an end to the conflict, and we are ready for the necessary decisions during the new summit of the leaders of the four countries (in the Normandy format – ed.),” The head of state quotes his press service.
We will remind, earlier – in the New Year’s address to compatriots – Zelensky called his main goal to end the war in Donbass. He also expressed confidence that Crimea will return to Ukraine, “since it was possible to return it to the world agenda.”
For his part, the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Andriy Yermak confirmed during today’s meeting that the Ukrainian side remains committed to the political and diplomatic path of settlement.
“Ukraine, France and Germany are making active efforts to resume effective work in the Normandy format at different levels. We expect that the Russian side will support these efforts, and will also contribute to the achievement of progress in the implementation of the decisions of the Paris summit of the Normandy Four, ”Yermak stressed.
Meanwhile, people continue to die in Donbass – the day before it became known that two more Ukrainian soldiers were blown up by a mine.
