“We are waiting for the rise”: Rospotrebnadzor is in no hurry to rejoice at the decrease in the incidence of ARVI in St. Petersburg

In the northern capital, an increase in cases of acute respiratory viral infections and influenza is expected, despite the low rates over the past New Year’s holidays. The head of the epidemiological surveillance of the Rospotrebnadzor Administration for the city of St. Petersburg Irina Chkhindzheria told the journalists about this.

According to her, in the first week of the new year, the incidence decreased by 60%, compared with seven days before the holidays. The indicator is 45% lower than the epidemiological threshold for both children and adults.

The representative of Rospotrebnadzor explained the figures by the fact that the townspeople were in no hurry to complain to doctors about their health condition.

“Now, of course, after our normal work rhythm has begun, we expect people to seek medical help, and we are waiting for some kind of recovery,” added Chkhinjeriya.

According to her, the situation with the coronavirus has stabilized, there is no significant increase in the incidence, or a significant decrease. For other infectious diseases, the situation is also favorable, no sanitary emergencies have been identified, the representative of the department summed up.

Earlier, the komzdrav said that 3.5 thousand citizens with coronavirus were hospitalized on New Year’s holidays.
