Rospotrebnadzor: Cases of suspicion of omicron identified in St. Petersburg

There are still patients in St. Petersburg who could have contracted the omicron coronavirus. The head of the epidemiological surveillance of the Rospotrebnadzor Administration for the city of St. Petersburg Irina Chkhindzheria told the journalists about this.

“There are cases of suspicion of the omicron virus strain in the city. They were identified among persons arriving primarily from countries unfavorable in terms of the spread of this strain. These are passengers primarily from African countries. All of them have been examined, they are all under observation. Anti-epidemic measures are being taken against them, namely, they are on 14-day isolation, the contacts are under observation, and they are all examined several times, ”the head of the department said.

Chkhindzheria did not name the exact number of cases. The representative of Rospotrebnadzor referred to that in order to confirm the connection between the diagnosis and the strain, it is necessary to first conduct a “special in-depth study by the genetic molecular method.” The analysis takes up to 10-12 days, the head of the department added.

We add that the appearance of cases of infection with “omicron” in the Northern capital became known in mid-December.

Earlier, Rospotrebnadzor said that they expect an increase in the incidence of acute respiratory viral infections and influenza in St. Petersburg.
