Older adult was macheted when he went to a store in Quevedo; the Police are looking for the attacker who was drinking in the place

A machete at the neck took the life of 80-year-old Francisco Yépez Goyes. The older adult was murdered by an unknown subject when he was going to a store in the Faita area of ​​the rural parish of San Carlos, in Quevedo, in Los Ríos.

The incident occurred around noon on Sunday, January 9, 2022.

A relative of the victim related that Yépez, after doing his agricultural work, went to buy water at the neighborhood store. His perpetrator took the machete that the older adult was carrying and inflicted a wound, at the neck level, on the right side.

Due to the distance, the man could not receive medical attention in time, so he died when he was taken to the hospital.

Witnesses said that minutes before the attacker was drinking alcoholic beverages and then fled the site, which is why he is wanted by the police.

It is not yet known what relationship the attacker and the older adult had or if they were complete strangers.

This fact has shocked Quevedeños, since the previous year a policeman was attacked in a similar way when he made his routine rounds in the center of the city. The uniformed man is recovering from the machete to the neck that a citizen inflicted on him, since the wound left him severe damage to his spine.

The attacker on this occasion was neutralized by another uniformed man, who shot him in order to disarm him and take away his knife (machete). As a result of the gunshot wound, the attacker lost his life days later.

In that same town, Jimmy Zambrano was assassinated early Friday. He was shot several times and his crime is still under investigation.

Meanwhile, in Babahoyo, Miguel Jiménez, 29, and Stalin Napa, 21, were shot by unknown subjects on the night of Sunday, January 9, in the Mata de Cacao sector of the rural Febres Cordero parish in Babahoyo, in Los Rivers.

Although the two victims were taken to the local Martín Icaza general hospital to try to save their lives, the doctors only confirmed their deaths.

So far the motive for this double crime that keeps the inhabitants of this parish in distress is unknown.

The corpses remain in the city morgue, where their relatives are waiting to be handed over to give them the respective burial. His relatives so far have not commented on the violent events. The police in this district have not provided more details either, but they reported that they are investigating at the scene of the events and thus be able to identify the perpetrators of this double murder.

In Los Ríos, so far in 2022, 15 murders have already been reported. Last year, in the same period, only one case had been registered. (I)
