“Under the blow of jihadists and looters”: the Russian ambassador to the United States spoke about the unrest in Kazakhstan

Russian Ambassador to the United States Anatoly Antonov believes that “thousands of jihadists and marauders” are involved in the riots in Kazakhstan. He stated this on the embassy’s Facebook page.

“Kazakhstan has come under attack from radicals professing a misanthropic ideology. Thousands of jihadists and marauders have tried to undermine the constitutional order. They use weapons against civilians. They cause damage to state and private property, ”the diplomat stated.

At the same time, he believes that “all this is happening after the American flight from Afghanistan and the rapid development against this background of extremist ideas and trends in the region.”

Antonov also welcomed the introduction of the peacekeeping forces of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) in Kazakhstan.

Let us remind you that protests began in Kazakhstan after the New Year. The protesters demanded a reduction in the price of liquefied gas. Later, the protests escalated into clashes and riots, there are people killed and wounded. The government of Kazakhstan has resigned. A state of emergency is in force throughout the country. The President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, requested assistance from the CSTO. More than 5.1 thousand people were detained, according to official data.

Meanwhile, Kazakhstan’s Secretary of State Yerlan Karin believes that the riots were the result of “a conspiracy of two sides to organize a coup in the country.”
