More than 230 Russians died in road traffic accidents during the New Year holidays

More than 230 Russian citizens became victims of road accidents during the New Year holidays in 2022, more than 700 people were saved. This was reported by the press service of the Russian Emergencies Ministry, quoted by the TASS news agency.

One of the reasons for the January road traffic accidents (since the beginning of 2022, more than 2 thousand accidents have been recorded on the roads of Russia) is the deteriorating weather conditions, which are accompanied by blinding snowfall and provoke the appearance of ice. Bad weather led to traffic restrictions on road sections of some municipalities of Bashkiria, Tatarstan, Krasnoyarsk Territory, Chelyabinsk and Murmansk regions.

Earlier it was reported that it was heavy snowfall that was the likely cause of a number of massive accidents on the M-2 “Don” highway in the Tula region that occurred on January 5. About 120 people were killed in these road collisions. At the same time, according to experts from the field, other circumstances also become frequent causes of accidents – such as drunk drivers who exchange tricks with each other to help avoid trouble with the traffic police.
