Washington agrees to discuss with Moscow the topic of security in Europe only with the participation of European countries, said US First Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman.
As stated in the statement of the State Department, Sherman warned Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov at preliminary talks in Geneva that the US intends to discuss only “some bilateral issues” at the meeting on strategic stability. According to Sherman, European security issues will be discussed only at a meeting of the NATO-Russia Council in Brussels on January 12 and at a meeting of the OSCE Permanent Council in Vienna on January 14.
In addition, at a meeting with Ryabkov, Sherman recalled the US commitment to “sovereignty, territorial integrity of countries, as well as their right to independently choose alliances” and expressed hope that through diplomacy it would be possible to achieve real progress in relations with Russia.
Let us remind you that bilateral negotiations between the United States and the Russian Federation will be held on Monday, January 10, in Geneva.
