Russian peacekeepers take protection of facilities in Kazakhstan

Russian peacekeepers have begun to perform tasks to protect vital facilities. This was reported by the press service of the Russian Defense Ministry.

“Subdivisions from the Russian peacekeeping contingent, which had previously arrived in the territory of the Republic of Kazakhstan, began to fulfill the assigned tasks to protect vital facilities, airfields, key social infrastructure facilities,” the ministry said.

At the same time, the transfer of units of the Russian contingent of the CSTO peacekeeping forces to Kazakhstan continues.

As a result of the riots in Kazakhstan, 16 police officers, the National Guard and the Ministry of Defense were killed, and over 1.3 thousand were injured, RBC reports with reference to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the republic.

More than 5.1 thousand people were detained, KazTAG agency reports in Telegram with reference to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the republic.

Earlier, the President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev, requested assistance from the CSTO because of the protests that began in the country after the New Year. The protesters demanded a reduction in the price of liquefied gas. The government of Kazakhstan has resigned. A state of emergency is in force throughout the country.
