Given the increase in patients at the Delfina Torres hospital and medical centers, Esmeraldas cantonal COE demanded that the Ministry of Health provide more medicines

Due to the rains in the province and the mobility of December, there are more sick people.

The arrival of dozens of citizens with respiratory symptoms to the medical care units and hospital in Esmeraldas already generates a shortage of some supplies and medicines, for which the cantonal COE agreed to demand from the Ministry of Public Health (MSP) the provision of medicines in operating units to treat various diseases, mainly COVID-19.

In the analysis made last Friday by the members of the technical tables and task groups of this organization, they concluded that the positivity rate of the pandemic is 50% in week 47, in the jurisdiction of the Esmeraldas canton. The issuance of daily certificates last December was two, six attentions of patients with COVID-19, 20% occupancy of ICU beds at the Delfina Torres hospital in the south of Esmeraldas – until last Thursday – and 139,800 people were inoculated until December 8 last.

Esmeraldas is on alert 1 for positive cases, with the delta strain predominating in transmissibility. There are at least 7 positive cases in each of the 25 established care areas, according to the MSP report at the local COE meeting.

At the meeting, it was also detailed that the fall of rains and festivities in December caused a large part of the Emerald population to present influenza, in some cases with symptoms of contagion of the pandemic and that increased attention in the sanatoriums of the town. Situation that has generated a shortage of supplies in the health units, detailed Betto Estupiñán, secretary of the cantonal COE.

Also due to the critical situation in emergency care due to the pandemic in the operating units of the first level of health in the province of Esmeraldas, the provincial COE and the Ministry of Education were urged to reduce face-to-face classes as much as possible.

More authorities with COVID-19

The prefect of Esmeraldas, Roberta Zambrano, revealed in a social network that she and some of her relatives tested positive for COVID-19 and that they are currently in sanitary isolation.

He affirmed that there are no reagents for PCR and antigen tests, at the time of questioning the authorities of the Municipality of Esmeraldas for not having applied the restrictions, as ordered by the national COE for the holidays last December.

For this reason, he asked Governor Tania Obando for a meeting of the provincial COE to deal with the health problem in this province in the north of the country. (I)
