The New York Times has compiled and published a map of the alleged location of Russian troops along the border with Ukraine. According to RBK, the troops “surround” Ukraine from three sides.
The publication explains that the map is based on data from Ukrainian and Western officials, as well as independent military analysts and satellite imagery. It shows the type of troops, their numbers, types of equipment.
According to Western and Ukrainian officials, there are now 100,000 troops near the border with Ukraine. As specified in the media, according to the US intelligence services, the Kremlin allegedly developed a military operation with the participation of 175 thousand soldiers.
Earlier, Moscow rejected reports of a possible invasion of Ukrainian territory.
According to Kommersant, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that Russia allegedly continues to build up its forces near Ukraine. On January 10, the Russia-NATO Council will take place in Geneva.
The Russian Foreign Ministry handed over to Washington and its allies a draft treaty with the United States and an agreement with NATO. For example, Moscow proposed that the alliance provide guarantees that would exclude further advancement of the bloc in an eastern direction, in particular, on Ukrainian territory.
Press Secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov said that the topic of security guarantees from NATO is for Russia “a matter of life and death.”
