Russia continues to gradually build up the grouping of armed forces near the borders of Ukraine, said NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.
Speaking at a press conference following an extraordinary meeting in Brussels of foreign ministers of the alliance member states, he said that “Russia’s aggressive actions seriously undermine the security system in Europe,” and called the risk of a military conflict real. Stoltenberg said Russia is also “stepping up the military build-up with threatening rhetoric.”
At the same time, he noted that in this situation “dialogue with Russia is especially important” and recalled that “any further aggression against Ukraine will have significant consequences and a high cost for Russia.”
The head of the alliance stressed that the allies “fully support the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine” and are ready to provide “political and practical support.” At the same time, he stressed that “you need to understand that we are talking about a valuable partner, not an ally.”
