The US authorities are concerned about the events in Kazakhstan, however, they believe that the republic can cope with the situation without the help of the CSTO, said US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken.
Speaking to reporters, Blinken noted that the United States “warned the Kazakh authorities to respond in a proportional, appropriate manner, in a manner consistent with the rights of the protesters.”
He also called for a search for a peaceful solution to the situation and noted that the appeal of the Kazakh authorities to the CSTO “raises questions.” According to Washington’s estimates, the republic has enough resources to resolve the situation on its own, so “it is not clear why they needed external assistance.”
“One lesson from past history: if Russians are in your house, it can be difficult to get them to leave,” added Blinken.
Let us remind you that protests in Kazakhstan began after the New Year due to the rise in prices for liquefied gas. The government resigned, while the CSTO Collective Security Council decided to send a collective peacekeeping force to Kazakhstan at the request of the president of the republic.
