Business owners and residents of the Cordero neighborhood, in the southwest of the city of Esmeraldas, announced a march to demand urgent action for the crimes of robbery of people and business premises.
The mobilization is scheduled for January 12 of the current year.
The initiative arose after the theft suffered by presenters and guests of the digital network program Zero point, at dusk on December 29 last.

The live broadcast, whose video was viralized on social networks, was made from a food establishment on Eloy Alfaro streets between Imbabura and Tungurahua, explained Jaime Tenorio, director.
Jean Pierre Izaguirre, owner of the establishment, corroborated what happened, since the criminals also assaulted clients who were at the time.
“Criminals move around on motorcycles and assault mainly at night, and in some cases they are recorded by video surveillance cameras. For this reason, we urge the Municipality of Esmeraldas to apply the ordinance that a single person move in these vehicles after 7:00 pm, ″ said Lenin Montaño, resident.
Marcelo Ramírez, a merchant, also requested that the Government of Esmeraldas request a greater presence of the Armed Forces in the streets.
Complaints are kept on hold
Gabriel Plúas, administrator of a home service company, indicated that some 16 robberies were registered from his operators, who presented the complaints to the Prosecutor’s Office, pending the investigations.
In a similar situation, there is a complaint of theft from employees of a public institution, while they were waiting for transportation to move to their places of work, the previous month.
The commander of the Esmeraldas Subzone 8 Police, Pablo Velasco, revealed that in 2021 48,614 operations were carried out, with 2,054 people arrested for crimes.
“There were 586 firearms and 2,351 knives seized; 53 dismantled criminal gangs; 70 vehicles and 225 motorcycles recovered; 8,928 gallons of seized hydrocarbons; 24 explosives; marijuana, more than three tons; 32.904 grams of base pasta; and cocaine hydrochloride, more than a ton, “said the police chief.
“The detainees with signs or evidence are handed over by the Police to the judges and the Prosecutor’s Office, for the respective hearings,” said Joffre García, Esmeraldas district chief.
Proof of this was the apprehension of a woman and Marco C., who records a history of possession and carrying of weapons in 2021, traffic violation and robbery in 2016.
The arrest took place in Tonsupa (Atacames), after an alleged confrontation motivated by threats, on Wednesday of this week.
Suspects of cattle theft arrested in rural Esmeraldas
During the search of a house in that town, a 5.56 caliber FR-15 rifle, two 9 mm caliber pistols, a feeder and twenty unexpired cartridges were found.
In addition, the apprehension of two citizens was achieved, one of them with a record of three antecedents, while they were moving 40,000 grams of marijuana inside a vehicle, in the sector of the fishing port of the Emerald capital. (I)
