In the Kazakh city of Baikonur, a regime of increased terrorist danger has been introduced due to protests and unrest in the country, the city administration said in a statement.
The corresponding order was signed by the head of Baikonur Konstantin Busygin. The “blue” regime will operate from noon on January 7th to midnight on January 19th.
The message of the mayor’s office notes that the situation in the city “remains stable and controlled”, increased security measures have been introduced at life support enterprises and emergency services. Prior to that, a curfew was imposed in the city for the same period and the sale of alcohol was prohibited, with the exception of cafes and restaurants.
It is also reported that at this time the checkpoints at the entrances to the city will not work at night. Officials and representatives of Roskosmos are deciding the issue of transporting local residents and employees who went on holidays to Baikonur, as well as evacuating people from Baikonur to Russia, Interfax notes.
Protests in Kazakhstan began after the New Year over the rise in the price of liquefied gas. The government resigned, while the CSTO Collective Security Council decided to send a collective peacekeeping force to Kazakhstan at the request of the president of the republic.
Law enforcement officials of Kazakhstan have detained 3,811 people in connection with the riots, the Kazakh Tengrinews agency reported on the Telegram channel data from the Ministry of Internal Affairs. According to the ministry, 26 participants in the riots were eliminated, another 26 people were injured.
