President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko signed the law “On the genocide of the Belarusian people”, which provides for the legal recognition of the genocide of the Belarusian people committed by Nazi criminals and their accomplices during the Great Patriotic War and the post-war period (until 1951).
At the same time, the Byelorussian people means all Soviet citizens who lived on the territory of the Byelorussian SSR during this period.
Criminal liability is established for public denial of the genocide of the Belarusian people, for example, by posting relevant information in the media or on the Internet.
“The implementation of the law will contribute to the inadmissibility of distorting the results of the Great Patriotic War, as well as the cohesion of the Belarusian society,” the press service of the President of Belarus said in a statement.
On Thursday, Lukashenka held a meeting on the implementation of historical policy. According to the Head of State, it is necessary to systematize historical research, memorial complexes, to determine the dates, events, personalities that should be immortalized for the future, to make adjustments to the work on the patriotic education of children and youth based on the facts of the heroic deeds of their ancestors.
“For the first time in the years of our independence, we put these two concepts – ‘history’ and ‘politics’ – side by side. Until now, we have tried not to politicize history. The political course of the country chosen by the Belarusian people was aimed at maintaining good relations, first of all, with our neighbors, ”the head of state noted.
He drew attention to the fact that the Belarusians tried not to offend the national feelings of those with whom they once lived in united states. “And the Belarusians have plenty of reasons,” noted Alexander Lukashenko.
The President of Belarus believes that in the 90s Soros and the West as a whole influenced the attitude of citizens of his country to history, however, according to Lukashenko, now Belarusians have a different attitude to historical memory. “Many who hung BCHB rags on their windows today are ashamed of it. Understand who controlled them. But the bad thing is that in this case we had to react to events, and should have preempted these events, ”stressed Alexander Lukashenko.
He urged not to hush up some facts of history: “Let us call, for example, the period of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, the occupation of the Belarusian land by the Poles, in history textbooks, in castle and museum expositions. Ethnocide of Belarusians. And what was it for our ancestors? Native language, culture, faith are prohibited. The tycoons exchanged Belarusian peasants for dogs. But the people survived and preserved their identity. “
Along with this, the President urged not to forget about the achievements of the Soviet period: “Let’s not forget that as a nation we were finally formed precisely during the Soviet era. It was then that the history of the Belarusian state began. For real”.
The head of state stressed that the task now is to prevent the development of ideas that could undermine the country in the future. Alexander Lukashenko also pointed out the need to develop a clear concept for assessing events and the role of individuals in the history of the Belarusian state.
