OSCE pledges assistance to Kazakhstan in overcoming crisis

OSCE Chairman Zbigniew Rau said that the organization is ready to help Kazakhstan overcome the current crisis and continue the implementation of political reforms in full compliance with commitments.

Rau, like earlier the EU, UN and the USA, called on all parties to the conflict in the republic to dialogue. He noted that de-escalation of the situation in Kazakhstan is important for the entire region of Central Asia. “I call for a peaceful return to order and respect for democratic processes, protection of the rights to freedom of assembly and speech,” the OSCE chairman said.

President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said that he considers the appeal to the CSTO partners appropriate and timely. These words were spoken during the meeting, which is broadcast on state TV channels, Sputnik Kazakhstan reports.

He turned to the CSTO allies with a request to assist in overcoming the “terrorist threat”. In addition to Kazakhstan, the CSTO includes Russia, Armenia, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
