Petersburg politician Boris Vishnevsky criticized the decision of the President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev, to ask the CSTO for help in resolving the internal political crisis.
“The President of Kazakhstan asked to send foreign troops (first of all, apparently, Russian) to the country to prevent the“ terrorist threat ”, which he considers citizens’ actions against the government. Anyone who calls on the interventionists for help in order to maintain their power can suppress the discontent of the people for a while. But in the history of his country, he is guaranteed to remain a coward and a traitor. And, as a rule, he will end very sadly, ”Vishnevsky writes on Facebook.
Earlier on Wednesday, Kazakh President Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev said that he considered the appeal to the CSTO partners appropriate and timely. He turned to the CSTO allies with a request to assist in overcoming the “terrorist threat”. In addition to Kazakhstan, the CSTO includes Russia, Armenia, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
Prior to this, the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov stated that the Kazakh authorities did not turn to Russia for help.
Tokayev said the protests in the republic were the result of a conspiracy by outside forces. He did not elaborate on the details.
