Zakon.kz: Two servicemen were killed during the liberation of Almaty airport

Two servicemen were killed during the anti-terrorist operation at the airport of the city of Alma-Ata. This was announced on Thursday by the Kazakh news portal Zakon.kz.

Earlier, the city commandant’s office reported that law enforcement agencies have launched an anti-terrorist special operation in Alma-Ata.

Kazakh President Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev said at a meeting of the Security Council on Wednesday that terrorist gangs in Almaty had seized an airport and five aircraft, including foreign ones.

According to the press service of the Almaty airport, a special operation was carried out in the building. The airport was released.

Earlier, the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Kazakhstan reported that during the riots in the republic, eight employees of the internal affairs bodies were killed, 317 police officers and soldiers of the National Guard were injured.

On Wednesday evening, Tokayev turned to the CSTO for help because of the unrest in the country. Tokayev called the appeal to the CSTO members appropriate and timely.

The State Duma said that Russia is obliged to respond to the appeal of the President of Kazakhstan. At the same time, according to the chairman of the State Duma Committee on CIS Affairs Leonid Kalashnikov, one should approach the issue carefully.
