The President of Kazakhstan decided to introduce a state of emergency in another region – the Almaty region

The President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev, introduced a state of emergency in the Alma-Ata region since January 5. This was reported by the press service of the President of Kazakhstan.

“In connection with a serious and immediate threat to the safety of citizens, in order to ensure public safety, restore law and order, protect the rights and freedoms of citizens, introduce a state of emergency within the borders of the Almaty region for the period from 12 hours 30 minutes on January 5, 2022 for a period of up to 00 hours 00 minutes January 19, 2022. Introduce a curfew in the Almaty region for the period of the state of emergency from 11:00 pm to 7:00 am, “the message says.

For the period of the emergency, the protection of public order, especially important state and strategic facilities, as well as facilities that ensure the life of the population and the functioning of transport will be strengthened. Restrictions on freedom of movement, including vehicles, are assumed; verification of documents, personal search; restriction of entry into and exit from the Almaty region. It is prohibited to organize and conduct peaceful assemblies, entertainment, sports and other mass events; sale of weapons, ammunition, explosives, special means, poisonous substances. A special regime for the circulation of medicines, ethyl alcohol, and alcoholic beverages will be established.

Meanwhile, protesters are gathering in Alma-Ata again. RIA Novosti reports that some of the participants in the march are moving in special vehicles, which may also belong to the security forces. Sputnik Kazakhstan in its Telegram channel reports that the protests began from the lower part of the city.

Earlier, protests began in Kazakhstan over the rise in prices for liquefied gas. The state of emergency operates in Alma-Ata and in the Mangistau region. Tokayev also accepted the resignation of the government.
