The injured were transferred to health centers in Catamayo and Loja.
On the afternoon of this Tuesday, January 4, a bus from the Cariamanga interprovincial transport cooperative suffered an accident on the Loja – Catamayo road, ten kilometers from the latter canton.
As a consequence of the incident, at least three people died and 18 were injured, reported ECU911.
Those affected were transferred to health centers in Catamayo and Loja.
After the fact, police officers arrived at the scene. There, they indicated that the number of deaths and injuries would be higher.
The bus complied with the Loja – Macará route and would have lost track, overturning to the extreme right of the road, “it exceeds the critical speed of the curve (…) the driver fled,” said an official from the institution.
Road users affirmed that some passengers said that the bus ran out of brakes on the slope. The road was closed to vehicular traffic to speed up rescue efforts and help those affected. (I)
