Riots broke out in Aktobe earlier. A railway crossing was blocked, and several people were detained in the area of ​​the city square.

According to the Diapazon newspaper, at least a thousand people came out to the rally and began to burn fires.

KazTAG reported that in Almaty, detentions are taking place in various districts of the city. Clashes with the police also took place in Atyrau. The protesters broke through the cordon on the approaches to the central square, surrounded Governor Makhambet Dosmukhambetov and did not allow him to leave the square by car.

Journalists of “KazTAG” and the publication “Orda” announced the restriction of access to communications, RBC reports. The Internet is malfunctioning in Almaty. Mobile operator “Beeline Kazakhstan” announced restrictions on the provision of mobile Internet services.

Protests over the sharp increase in gas prices by half – up to 120 tenge per liter – began in the Mangistau region immediately after the New Year. In Mangystau, the government has reduced the cost to 50 tenge per liter.

The head of state, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, called on the protesters not to follow the calls of destructive persons interested in undermining the stability and unity of society.
