There were four minors in the house at the time of the crime. It is the first femicide of the year.
After an argument that occurred in front of four minors, a 36-year-old woman was murdered this Sunday in the 15 de Agosto cooperative, in the Guasmo sector, south of Guayaquil.
María Emperatriz Caicedo was shot in the head apparently by her partner and the father of her two children. In the humble wooden house there were also two nephews of the victim.
A neighbor said that several screams were heard and they noticed that there was an argument, but that no one gets in there. He mentioned that shortly after the detonation was heard and then the minors began to ask for help and took Maria out loaded.
Three adolescents aged 15, 13 and 12 took the injured woman to the Guasmo maternity ward, located five blocks from the scene of the crime.
“They were carrying her on the street, a man in a motorcycle found them in the middle of the road and they took her out,” said a woman from the sector who saw the scene and the children run desperately.
At the maternity ward they gave the woman first aid, but she was referred to the Guasmo hospital, where at 01:30 they were confirmed that she had died.
While this was happening, Henry T., 48, a partner of María Emperatriz, was apprehended by the Police, as he appeared at the Community Police Unit located next to the maternity ward in the sector.
The subject confessed that he had shot the woman and said that he had thrown the weapon into a vacant lot near the house.
The uniformed men entered that property, but until 11:00 this Monday they could not find the weapon.
Henry T. was transferred to the Florida Prosecutor’s Office to be processed for the crime of femicide, which is punishable by 34 years in prison.
María Emperatriz leaves her two minor children orphaned. Today the victim’s mother was in that house taking care of her grandchildren.
According to data from the Center for the Promotion and Action of Women (Cepam), in 2021 185 cases of this type were registered at the national level. In the last days of the previous year there were two femicides, one in Jujan (Guayas) and the other in Babahoyo (Los Ríos). (I)
