Russian President Vladimir Putin managed to outplay Europe when he agreed with China to increase gas supplies. This is the conclusion reached by the columnist Anthony Ashkenazi in an article for the British edition of the Daily Express.
According to the author of the publication, the Russian leader and President of the People’s Republic of China Xi Jinping are close to concluding a deal on the construction of a new pipeline, supplies through which will be equivalent to the volumes of fuel that were supposed to be sent through the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline to Europe, Lenta.ru reports. …
“The agreement will double exports to China, the new major gas pipeline Power of Siberia-2 will annually transport up to fifty billion cubic meters of natural gas,” PRIME quotes excerpts from the article.
And this, Ashkenazi emphasizes, is taking place against the backdrop of a serious energy crisis in Europe.
As TASS recalls, back in the spring of 2020, Putin instructed Gazprom to move to the initial stage of the Power of Siberia-2 project. It will allow uniting the gas transmission systems of the east and west of Russia. In addition, the concern will be able to supply up to 50 billion cubic meters of gas to China via Mongolia via the pipeline and gasify a number of regions of the Russian Federation.
