A new strain of coronavirus discovered in the south of France

Marseille doctors have discovered in the south of France a new variant of the coronavirus, which was detected in travelers returning from Cameroon, reports the Austrian newspaper Heute.

This strain was designated B.1.640.2. French experts talk about 46 mutations of the new variant of the coronavirus. At the same time, the level of threat or infectiousness of this strain is unknown, reports TASS.

As indicated in a study by the Institute of Infectious Diseases in Marseille (IHU), in 12 residents of a city in southeast France, “coronavirus” tests to identify mutations showed “an atypical combination,” RIA Novosti notes.

At the same time, the day before, the French Minister of Health Olivier Veran admitted that about half a million people may be infected with coronavirus infection in the country every day, Interfax emphasizes.

We add, on the eve of the Russian researcher, big data analyst Alexander Dragan, in an interview with Lenta.ru, did not rule out that the coronavirus pandemic will not end this year, and the whole world will have at least two more waves associated with the omicron strain.

Meanwhile, in the United States, the number of new COVID-19 cases detected daily has tripled over the past two weeks and now exceeds 400,000.

Recall also that, according to the American Johns Hopkins University, the number of registered cases of COVID-19 infection in the world on the morning of January 3 reached 290 million 157 thousand 607, and 5 million 443 thousand 753 people have died since the spread of coronavirus.
