Municipality of Santa Ana suspends face-to-face care of various services due to the increase in COVID-19 cases from its officials

Thirteen massive events were suspended in Portoviejo, including a party with 400 people in the community of Mejía.

From this Monday the 3rd until next Monday the 10th the Municipality of Santa Ana, in Manabí, will not attend the public in person in most of its offices. This is because several cases of COVID-19 have been detected in officials of this municipality.

The only area that was enabled to serve the public, and taking all biosecurity measures, is the one concerning the collection of urban properties, payment of drinking water and other municipal fees.

“Due to several cases of COVID-19 in the institution and with the aim of safeguarding the integrity of public servants and citizens, there will be no attendance to the public in person for citizen procedures for a period of eight days,” said a statement issued by this Manabi council.

It was also indicated that care in the units of the Physical Rehabilitation Center, the Board and Cantonal Council for the Protection of Rights are suspended. However, it was established that the capacity of personnel who come to work within the municipality without attention to the public will be 50%.

The Municipality of the canton 24 de Mayo, neighbor of Santa Ana, through its social networks issued an alert statement regarding the high contagion that there would be in this canton.

The Eloy Alfaro de Manabí Lay University (Uleam) announced the extension of work activities in the form of teleworking for administrative and service personnel until next Friday, January 7, also reiterating that classes will be held virtually until the end of the academic period 2021-2022, this against the resolutions of the national COE in cases of COVID-19.

Bosco Barberán, zonal coordinator 4 of the Ministry of Public Health, indicated that the cases of COVID-19 infections went from 55 to 200 daily, although they are mild with a tendency to moderate.

From the beginning of the pandemic to the present date, in Manabí about 50,000 infections of the pandemic have been reported.

Citizen disobedience also caused the early morning of January 1, at least in Portoviejo, the police station of this canton to suspend thirteen activities, including clandestine parties, bars serving at non-established hours, and others.

Yandri Aguayo, Portoviejo Police Commissioner, indicated that thirteen events were suspended in this canton, including a party with about 400 people that was intended to be held in the Mejía community, as well as other celebrations with a massive presence of persons. (I)
