At 11:30 p.m. on Sunday, January 2, the first femicide case of the year was registered in Guayaquil. It happened in the 15 de Agosto cooperative, in the Guasmo sector, south of Guayaquil.
The 32-year-old victim, identified as María Emperatriz Caicedo, was allegedly shot by her partner.
She received a gunshot wound to the head and was taken by her teenage children to the Guasmo maternity ward, near her home.
Then she was referred to the Guasmo Sur hospital, where her death was confirmed at 01:30 on Monday 3.
In this case, Henry T., 48, a partner of María Emperatriz, is a suspect in the crime. He was apprehended by the Police minutes after the fact, as he appeared at the Community Police Unit, located next to the maternity ward in the sector.
The subject confessed that he had shot the woman and said that he had thrown the weapon into a vacant lot near the house.
The uniformed men entered that property, but until 11:00 this Monday they could not find the weapon,
Meanwhile, Henry T. was transferred to the Florida Prosecutor’s Office to be processed for the crime of femicide, which is punishable by 34 years in prison.
María Emperatriz leaves several minors orphaned.
According to data from the Center for the Promotion and Action of Women (Cepam), in 2021 about 185 cases of this type were registered at the national level. In the last days of the previous year there were two femicides; one in Jujan (Guayas) and the other in Babahoyo (Los Ríos). (I)
