At the national level there are already at least 20 violent deaths as of noon on January 3.
The violence in cantons belonging to Zone 8 continues in these first days of 2022. Seven murders and several attempts were registered between the night of Sunday 2 and the early hours of this Monday, January 3.
The most recent case occurred at kilometer 8 of the Duran-Tambo road. There, two bodies were found on Monday morning, around 08:00.
The deceased were in a vacant lot; one of them covered with a black awning.
Two young people who were circulating on the road observed the bodies and approached thinking that they had both been run over. After that, they called ECU911.
“One of the dead did not have a shirt, he had a tattoo on his arm and you could see the holes from the bullets. We no longer approach the other one ”, said the witness.
Personnel from special units of the Police arrived at the site and were in charge of lifting the bodies. No statements were made on the site in this case.
Hours before the discovery in Durán, at the foot of a field located in block 340 of block 7 of Paraíso de la Flor, in the northwest of Guayaquil, A couple was shot inside a gray Chevrolet Aveo vehicle.
It happened at 04:00 and the victims were identified as René Rodríguez Mora, 24, and Silvia Cruz Macías, 21.
Rodríguez, who records several antecedents, was shot eight times, four of those in the head, while Cruz bled to death as a result of a shot in the neck.
Nine ballistic indicia were raised at the scene. In addition, it was learned that the hit men had followed the victims for several blocks.
Around midnight there was also an alleged case of femicide in the south of Guayaquil. In the coop. August 15, del Guasmo, a 32-year-old woman identified as María Emperatriz Caicedo was allegedly shot by her partner.
She was taken to the Guasmo hospital, where death was confirmed. The suspect, Henry T., 48, was detained by police minutes after the fact, as he turned himself in at a Community Police Unit (UPC) near his home.
At 23:00 on Sunday in the coop. Valladolid, on the island of Trinitaria, in the south of the city, there was another murder. Two men on a motorcycle shot at Jefferson Leandro de la Rosa, who was outside his home.
The 25-year-old victim was taken to the Guayaquil hospital with gunshot wounds to the head, chest and abdomen. His death was confirmed on the site.

The body of Jonathan Holguín, 28, was found dead inside his home. He had several gunshot wounds.
The Police lifted the body and confirmed that the victim had two records for illegal possession and possession of weapons and another for illegal association.
Witnesses said that two men entered the house and shot him. After the fact, the Police carried out an operation to find the hitmen.
