Biologist Baranova named blood groups most vulnerable to COVID-19

People with the second and fourth groups are more susceptible to COVID-19, and with the first and third – the opposite. Ancha Baranova, Doctor of Biological Sciences, Professor of the School of Systems Biology at George Mason University (Virginia, USA), expressed this opinion in an interview with Lente.ru.

“The blood of people with different groups does not have exactly the same molecular composition. Both in the first and in the third group there are antibodies to antigen A, which has a slight resemblance to the coronavirus antigen, ”the expert explained.

When a person with these antigens meets COVID-19, her antibodies can affect the virus and muffle its symptoms, she said. If the dose of the virus was small, the patient may not get sick.

“But the important truth is that the likelihood of not getting sick or getting an infection is easy for the owners of the first and third blood groups is only ten percent lower. And this, in fact, does not affect anything, ”Baranova clarified.

We will also remind that earlier she predicted the development of the situation with the coronavirus in 2022. According to the expert, it will be great luck for humanity if the new omicron strain replaces the previous delta. However, most likely, “dynamic equilibrium” will come, and both options will continue to exist, Baranova said. At the same time, she added, it will be important what proportion of people have cross-immunity.
