Beglov: There is still not enough collective immunity in St. Petersburg to stop the omicron

Herd immunity in St. Petersburg is not yet enough to stop the spread of the new omicron coronavirus strain. The governor of the city, Alexander Beglov, admitted this in an interview with RIA Novosti.

At present, according to him, “taking into account the vaccinated, herd immunity in St. Petersburg is more than 80 percent.”

However, the mayor lamented, “it (herd immunity – ed.) Is not enough to stop the new omicron strain”.

However, Beglov is sure that the current level of herd immunity allowed the Northern capital “to pass the fourth peak more confidently than the second wave in konce in 2020 ».

As a reminder, from January 2, St. Petersburg began to require QR codes to visit public catering establishments, retail stores and shopping centers.

However, this “covid” measure does not apply to industrial canteens, catering establishments on the territory of hotels for guests, cafes at train stations and airports. Also, coronavirus certificates are not needed to visit stores without a trading floor, grocery stores and stores with non-food essentials, pharmacies and gas stations.
