Former militia commander of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) Igor Girkin (Strelkov) advises the residents of St. Petersburg to be wary and even “not quietly” worry about Finland’s hypothetical NATO membership.
So he commented on the “New Year” statement of the Finnish Prime Minister Sanna Marin that her country retains the possibility of applying for membership in the North Atlantic Alliance.
According to Strelkov, Petersburgers “should start to worry little by little … or even not slowly.” “When Finland last time was in a military alliance, almost most of the then Petersburgers died out during the blockade, exactly half of which was provided by Finnish troops,” the former DPR defense minister says on his VKontakte page.
At the same time, he criticizes the current leadership of Russia for “the very fact of such sentiments in the top leadership of Finland”, which was not the case before – “since 1945”.
