The launch of Nord Stream 2 will be called into question if Russia invades Ukraine. This statement was made by the deputy from the Green Party, a member of the Bundestag Foreign Policy Committee Omid Nuripur.
The German MP noted that an energy project of this scale “always has great political significance,” TASS reports. He urged European politicians to consider the possibility of restrictive measures against the pipeline.
In addition, according to Nuripur, Nord Stream 2 is splitting Europe, so the Greens “have always been against it”.
At the same time, the deputy admitted that if the gas pipeline passes certification, and the Russian authorities “do not take illegal actions,” the project will start working on schedule.
“If the European Commission and the Federal Grid Agency consider that there are no legal grounds for launching, then gas will not flow through Nord Stream 2. If there is a legal basis, then it will be launched, ”concluded Nuripur.
We add that at the end of December, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that Nord Stream 2 was ready to go. According to him, now it is up to the European regulators to make a decision on the start of the gas pipeline.
